It is with great sadness and disappointment that I have to inform you of major cancellations of SCBDA, CWEA and our marching band trip to Florida. In light of numerous districts restricting travel and several of our host sites who are now unable to host, the SCBDA has canceled 2020 Concert Performance Assessment. The CWEA board of directors have also met and decided to cancel all remaining CWEA events this season. Out of an abundance of caution and to assist with our nation’s preventative efforts, Universal Orlando Resorts has temporarily closed their theme parks through the end of March. As a result of this closure we will not be going on our Tri-Annual marching band trip to Florida. We are tentatively planning to go to Florida in the spring of 2021. Our Band Booster Club will begin processing refunds for all money paid as soon as we receive reimbursement from our travel company. As a result of the cancellation of Concert Performance Assessment, the SCBDA Executive Board has decided that there will be no Outstanding Performance Awards awarded for the 2019-2020 school year. CPA is a major part of the Outstanding Performance Award scoring system and the Executive Board felt that it would not be in the SCBDA’s best interests to alter the points system.
We know that this news coupled with the news from WGI, CWEA, and SCBDA earlier this week is a lot to handle. We are all equally disappointed about the cancellations of these events. Please don’t think that your hard work and efforts this semester are in vain. We have grown tremendously as a program and this growth is a testament of our continual growth mindset. Let's continue to “Level Up” as an ensemble and finish the year strong.
