We offer numerous small ensembles at Strom Thurmond High School.  Performing in a small ensemble gives students the opportunity to be more independent musicians.  This also gives students the opportunity to play a wide variety of music that is not always covered in band classes.

 

 

Winter Guard

 

We have a newly formed Winter Guard program at Strom Thurmond High School that competes in the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association regional circuit. This group was a 2019 CWEA Novice Class Gold Medalist.   

 

 

Percussion Ensemble 

 

We offer a percussion class that allows our percussionist the opportunity to develop their individual percussion skills and techniques.  We also have a percussion ensemble to give our percussionists the opportunity to perform a variety of percussion ensemble literature. This ensemble performs at concerts as well as SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Festival.  We encourage our students to be well-rounded percussionist and learn a variety of percussion instruments.

 

Brass Choir 

 

We have a mixed brass choir, brass quintet, trombone choir and trumpet ensemble that perform a variety of literature from different genres and time periods.  These chamber ensembles play for a variety of school and community events.  They also participate in the SCBDA's Solo and Ensemble Festival. 

 

Woodwind Ensembles 

 

We have a mixed woodwind ensemble, saxophone choir, and several other smaller woodwind ensembles that peform a variety of literature from different genres and time periods.  These chamber ensembles play for a variety of school and community events.  They also participate in the SCBDA's Solo and Ensemble Festival.
